Keller lays out key five areas that churches need to pay attention to in order to grow: 1) ministry options; 2) staff; 3) decision-making; 4) assimilation; and 5) role of the pastor. To move from a smaller church to a medium-sized church, churches need to have bring all 5 of those areas to an “A+” level. There are also other significant changes that need to happen.
- Ministry options: Churches need to offer more ministry options. As more options open up, more people opt in.
- Staff: Hiring multiple staff members will be necessary.
- Decision-making: Most of the decision-making will happen through the pastors and the Board, not the congregation.
- Assimilation: Churches will work much harder to get people connected to the body. They will develop a deliberate assimilation strategy.
- Role of the pastor: The pastor begins investing more in leaders, rather than providing personal care to every member of the church.
